Born in Cape Town, Karen Koch did her undergraduate medical degree at the University of Cape Town where she qualified suma cum laude. She completed her specialist dermatology training at the University of Witwatersrand, also qualifying suma cum laude and receiving the prestigious Janssen Research Foundation medal in 2013 and the Gordon Smith medal in 2017. After completing four years of dermatology in the State sector at some of the busiest public hospitals in Africa, she recently started in private practice. Creating awareness of dermatological conditions is incredibly important and Dr. Koch writes for several popular magazines on a regular basis as well as blogging enthusiastically on all matters dermatological. She also contributes scientific pieces to medical journals and offers talks to general practitioners, specialists and the general public. She feels that there is always room for improvement and attends both local and international medical congresses on a regular basis to further her knowledge of dermatology trends and best practice.
